Slovenia will present its cultural and sustainable tourism highlights at ITB Berlin 2024, the leading international tourism expo from 5-7 March 2024. This year, the focus will be on showcasing its rich arts and cultural offerings, with a special spotlight on Nova Gorica, set to be the European Capital of Culture in 2025 alongside Italy’s Gorizia. Slovenia will also highlight its role in promoting sustainable tourism practices.

ITB Berlin, expected to attract around 24,000 attendees, is the premier global event for the tourism industry, exclusively for professionals. The expo will include expert-led discussions across four stages and 17 specialized areas, all centered around the theme “Define the World of Travel. Together.”

Rebeka Kumer Bizjak, Head of the STB Representation in Germany, highlighted: “ITB Berlin is not only a great opportunity to address the German market – the most important foreign market for Slovenian tourism, where we achieved excellent results last year with an over 24% growth in overnight stays compared to 2019. Nova Gorica, set to be the European Capital of Culture 2025 alongside Gorizia, will highlight its rich cultural heritage and contemporary artistic currents that cross geographical and mental borders. Selected journalists and members of the professional public will also get to know Slovenia better through interesting talks in the more intimate ‘living room’ of our new exhibition space, while invited guests will feel its pulse at the I Feel Slovenia Evening. We look forward to an exciting event and to new and deeper business ties.”

Slovenia will showcase 26 destinations and suppliers at ITB Berlin, featuring an innovative stand with advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence. The stand will offer cozy spaces for detailed conversations and events while committing to eco-friendly practices, highlighting Slovenia’s tourism appeal at the event and on digital platforms.

Located in Hub 27, a key area for German-speaking regions and neighbors to Liechtenstein, the Slovenian exhibition will be alongside major German transportation entities and airports such as Deutsche Bahn, Fraport, BER, and Flughafen Köln/Bonn.

The showcase will include destinations like the Portorož Tourist Board, the Šalek Valley Tourism Board, and the Nova Gorica and Vipava Valley Tourism Board, as well as offerings from Maribor Tourism Board, Ljubljana Tourism, the Julian Alps, renowned spas, travel agencies, and cultural sites like the Postojna Cave and Lipica Stud Farm.

A special highlight will be Nova Gorica, set to become the European Capital of Culture in 2025 alongside Italy’s Gorizia, with virtual exploration of Europe Square and prints by graphic designer Zora Stančič. The booth will host discussions on tourism, arts, and culture for an audience of journalists, specialists, and industry leaders.

ITB Berlin will also present the Golden City Gate Awards for outstanding achievements in tourism marketing and communication and the Green Destinations Top 100 Story Awards, where Miren Kras, Brežice, and Šalek Valley from Slovenia are nominated for their dedication to sustainable tourism initiatives.
