The upcoming ITE Hong Kong 2024, featuring the 38th ITE (Leisure) and the 19th ITE MICE, will host a cutting-edge forum titled “Charting the Digital Path: The Intersection of Technology and Sustainable Tourism.”

Set for June at the prestigious Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre (HKCEC), this event aims to explore the connections between technology and sustainable tourism development. It will examine how technological innovations can improve travel experiences while supporting environmental conservation and sustainable practices in the tourism industry.

In today’s digital era, merging technology with sustainable tourism is crucial. It not only enhances efficiency and convenience for travelers and the travel industry but also helps in conserving resources, reducing carbon footprints, and promoting local cultures and biodiversity. The forum, organized by Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) and co-organized by TKS Exhibition Services Ltd., highlights the growing importance of sustainability in the travel sector, reflecting ITE’s enduring dedication to sustainable tourism.

Professor Alan Au, Dean of the HKMU Business School, emphasizes the university’s role in advocating the application of knowledge towards corporate sustainability. The collaboration for this forum is expected to foster stronger partnerships across a diverse array of stakeholders, contributing significantly to the sustainability of Hong Kong’s tourism industry. This initiative aligns with HKMU’s 35th anniversary celebrations and its contributions to the city’s economic advancement through various business management programs, including those focusing on sustainable tourism and hospitality management.

The event will include an in-depth panel discussion featuring prominent figures from the tourism and hospitality industries, as well as academics and professionals. They will tackle key questions about how technology can improve travel experiences, the opportunities it offers, and the challenges it presents. The forum will showcase real-world examples of how technology is promoting sustainability in tourism, fostering a meaningful exchange of ideas and experiences.

KS Tong, Managing Director of TKS Exhibition Services Ltd., highlights the novelty of addressing sustainable tourism from a technological perspective at ITE. The anticipation for the forum underscores the relevance and timeliness of integrating technology with sustainability efforts in the tourism sector.

ITE Hong Kong 2024 has strong backing from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China, the Hong Kong Tourism Board, the Macao Government Tourism Office, and various travel and MICE trade associations. Its format, starting with trade professional-focused days and ending with public access, encourages broad engagement across the tourism industry.

The upcoming forum at ITE Hong Kong 2024 aims not only to explore the dynamic relationship between technology and sustainable tourism but also to set a visionary course for the industry. In the digital age, which offers unparalleled opportunities for sustainable development, this forum is poised to spark discussions that could influence the future of tourism in Hong Kong and beyond. Registration details and further information will be available soon, welcoming a diverse audience of tourism professionals, technology providers, academics, media representatives, and educators to participate in this vital conversation.
