ITB Berlin shines as a forward-looking forum, highlighting AI insights and revealing Albania as the host for 2025, showcasing global travel trends and innovations.

In 2024, signs point to a promising year ahead: the premier global event for the travel industry reaffirmed its commitment to shaping the future, solidifying its position as the leading global platform for commerce, innovation, and networking. Despite challenges from widespread industrial actions, this year’s ITB Berlin saw a modest increase in attendance, with nearly 100,000 participants—exceeding expectations given the difficult circumstances. With a diverse international presence, over 5,500 exhibitors from 170 nations illuminated the event over three days, completely filling all 27 halls of the Berlin Exhibition Grounds.

The travel sector’s innovative role was prominently displayed at the ITB Berlin Convention, held concurrently with the expo. The convention featured esteemed participants and showcased 400 distinguished global speakers across 200 sessions and 17 thematic areas, exploring the latest trends and advances. In total, approximately 24,000 individuals participated in various panels, discussions, keynote addresses, and presentations, solidifying the convention’s position as the premier global platform for industry thought leadership.

The industry continues its upward trajectory

The ITB Buyers Circle, comprising 1,300 top buyers, served as a barometer for the industry’s health, underlining the event’s significance as a key marketplace. In partnership with Dr. Fried & Partner management consultants, ITB Berlin launched the first-ever Global Travel Buyer Index. This survey, involving hundreds of Buyers Circle members, asked about the current economic climate and business aspirations. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, indicating a strong market outlook and optimism for the next six months.

High Engagement from Media and Political Figures

The event garnered significant attention from the media and political spheres, with approximately 3,200 accredited journalists from 103 countries and over 300 bloggers covering ITB Berlin. As a hub for global tourism, the trade show attracted political figures and diplomats worldwide. This year, the event welcomed numerous delegations, including nearly 80 ministers and state secretaries, as well as 72 ambassadors, highlighting ITB Berlin’s importance as a global meeting point.

The ITB Berlin Convention Emphasizes its Role as a Visionary Hub for Strategic Insights

The ITB Berlin Convention underscored its position as a leading center for thought leadership, with a particular focus on artificial intelligence (AI). A dedicated AI segment made its debut at the convention, receiving enthusiastic feedback from the 24,000 participants, reaffirming the idea that AI is essential for every entity in today’s landscape.

Recent Geopolitical Tensions Impact Sustainability Pursuits

Recent geopolitical tensions, including the conflict in Ukraine and new disturbances in the Middle East, have added to the challenge of pursuing sustainability. Despite these issues, Ukraine, Israel, and Palestine were represented at ITB Berlin, with Israel’s tourism minister advocating for increased travel to the region and the lifting of travel advisories during their press briefing.

Post-pandemic Recovery Shows Promise in Asia-Pacific Market

Post-pandemic recovery took a positive turn in the Asia-Pacific market for the first time since 2023. China, making its return to the convention, highlighted its open-door policy by streamlining visa processes for visitors from certain countries. This development left ITB Berlin participants optimistic about the year’s prospects, anticipating a surge in business and advance reservations, particularly for the summer of 2024.

Exhibition Sees Positive Trends in Hall Utilization and New Participants

The exhibition witnessed a positive trend in hall utilization, with the reopening of five renovated halls leading to numerous enhancements and changes. For the first time, German-speaking nations shared a single space in hub27. Welcoming back China, Liechtenstein, and Emirates airline, the event also introduced first-timers such as Dominica, the Cayman Islands, and Disney Cruise Lines. An increase in exhibition space was evident, with popular destinations like Italy, Greece, and Turkey, as well as representatives from Asia, the Arab world, and Africa, expanding their presence. The Travel Tech sector experienced growth, and the Mobility and Cruise segments continued to attract attention due to their enduring appeal.

Looking Ahead to ITB Berlin 2025, Albania to Host

Albania is set to be the spotlighted host country for ITB Berlin 2025, a partnership formalized on the event’s second day. This highlights Albania’s promising prospects as an emerging tourist destination, building on a prior announcement of collaboration.

ITB Berlin 2025 is scheduled to take place from 4 to 6 March 2025, continuing as a business-to-business (B2B) gathering at the Berlin Exhibition Grounds.
