Since its establishment in 2013,World Travel Market (WTM) Latin America has placed a strong emphasis on promoting ethical tourism and encouraging sustainable practices within the travel industry. This commitment has been underscored by the event’s comprehensive program, which includes lectures, panels, and debates dedicated to sustainable tourism. In addition, the event introduced the Responsible Tourism Award in 2019 to recognize outstanding sustainable initiatives by Latin American enterprises.
The inaugural ceremony for the Responsible Tourism Award was held online in 2021, highlighting numerous initiatives from organizations and associations across the region. As the event approaches, WTM Latin America has announced the 22 contenders from 10 countries competing in the award’s fourth edition, spanning six categories. This year, the awards have expanded to include new categories that reflect the unique aspects of tourism in the region, such as indigenous tourism and tourism in traditional communities. Specialized strategic partners from various nations have also been included. The finalists are presented in alphabetical order:

This year, there has been a remarkable increase of over 40% in submissions, totaling more than 150 entries, all rigorously reviewed by a distinguished jury. This panel, comprising representatives from across Latin America, includes travel professionals, association leaders, public sector representatives, media figures, and influential opinion leaders, along with six organizations dedicated to advancing sustainable tourism in the region. The winners will be announced on April 16 at 6 p.m. during the WTM Latin America 2024’s Transformation theater event.
Finalists are evaluated based on the innovation, scalability, and tangible impact of their sustainable solutions. Beyond prestigious recognition, finalists benefit from expert insights and the opportunity to enhance their profile among consumers and industry peers in a highly competitive market.
The fourth edition of the Responsible Tourism Awards will recognize achievements in six key areas: conservation of biodiversity, advancement of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the tourism sector, enhancement of social and economic development and promotion of peace through tourism, outstanding efforts in networking to support sustainable tourism practices in destinations, exceptional contributions to tourism involving indigenous and/or traditional communities, and innovative approaches to combating climate change.
