Wizz Air, known as Europe’s fastest-growing and most environmentally sustainable airline, is thrilled to introduce its inaugural “Women on Air” event—an innovative initiative aimed at promoting gender diversity and empowerment in the aviation industry, traditionally male-dominated.
The groundbreaking “Women on Air” forum, held in Budapest, brought together 140 participants and featured a distinguished lineup of female leaders in various roles, including captains, first officers, senior executives of the airline, aircraft leasing and manufacturing companies, as well as representatives from industry authorities and diplomats. These pioneers shared their personal journeys and insights on diversity, inclusion, leadership, work-life balance, confidence building, and overcoming challenges, both in the cockpit and corporate settings.
This forum underscores Wizz Air’s dedication to fostering diversity and inclusion within its organization and the broader aviation sector. With 65% of its cabin crew being female and 5% female pilots across its network, Wizz Air is actively working to enhance the representation of women in all functions. Additionally, the airline aims to achieve 7% female flight crew, supported by its innovative “She Can Fly” Pilot Academy program, which offers a pathway for the career advancement and success of female pilots.

Sharing insights on the personal journey in aviation from a military pilot to the boardroom, Charlotte Pedersen, Board Member of Wizz Air, noted: “Aviation is, despite many efforts, still lagging behind other industries when it comes to gender diversity.
