Holetown festival

Initiated in 1977 by Alfred Pragnell, Keith Simmons, and the Trents Northern Youth Group, the Holetown Festival marks the 350th anniversary of the first English settlement in Barbados. Held on the historic site of this initial settlement, the festival has grown into a distinctive celebration known as the Holetown brand. It stands out for its celebration of Barbadian culture, showcasing a wide range of entertainment such as gospel, classical music, Tuk Band, calypso, and folk dancing through free open-air concerts. Acknowledging its cultural importance, the Barbados Government has designated the Holetown Festival as one of the island’s top seven festivals.

Holetown Festival Street Fair is a vibrant mix of dance, theater, music, arts and crafts, and authentic Barbadian cuisine, attracting both locals and tourists. Visitors can explore the artisan village for local crafts and enjoy traditional dishes at food stalls.

The festivities include family-friendly events and parades. The George Ullyett Memorial Street Parade starts at 11:00am, featuring vintage cars, military units, and dance troupes. At 5:00pm, the Bajan DOOFLICKY procession invites participation with its array of stilt walkers, Mother Sally, The Green Monkeys, The Tuk Band, and The Limbo Queen.
