FITUR Know-How & Export is making a triumphant return to the International Tourism Trade Fair, providing a comprehensive exploration of the latest technological advancements in the tourism industry. This event, a collaboration between SEGITTUR, FITUR, and ICEX España Exportación e Inversiones, is set to take place from January 24 to 26, 2024.
The 12th edition of FITUR Know-How & Export will place a spotlight on critical themes such as the Smart Destination Platform, the pivotal role of European funds in the digital transformation of the tourism sector, and the realm of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Over 40 technology-focused companies dedicated to transforming destinations will be present, with discussions spanning sustainability, agritourism experiences, and exemplary practices tied to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within the tourism sector, as part of the United Nations Global Compact working group’s efforts.
Furthermore, the event will acknowledge and celebrate the most innovative AI solutions within the tourism sector through the inaugural “The IA for Tourism Awards 2024,” scheduled for January 25, featuring 18 notable nominations.

Wednesday, January 24:
- 11.30 am: Presentation of the UNE 178510:2023 standard, focusing on Smart Tourism Companies. Key participants include Enrique Martínez, President of SEGITTUR; María Velasco, Advisor and spokesperson for the Secretary of State for Tourism; and Natalia Ortiz de Zárate, Secretary of AEN/CTN 178 SC5, Spanish Association for Standardisation (UNE).
- 12.00 pm: Roundtable discussion titled “Advancing Sustainable Tourism for Development: How Multilateral Institutions Can Help” (conducted in English), moderated by Fernando León, Head of Travel Industry at ICEX. Distinguished participants include representatives from the Ministry of Tourism of the Philippines, Asian Development Bank (ADB), Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and World Bank Group (WBG).
- 1.00 pm: Launch of the 2nd Call for applications for funding for the digitalization of tourism companies in the “Last Mile” Programme, under the framework of the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan.
- 1.30 pm: Announcement of funding opportunities for the deployment of technological platforms and solutions in destinations belonging to the Smart Tourism Destination Network (Red DTI), within the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan.
- 4.00 pm: Roundtable discussion on “User cases linked to the Smart Destination Platform,” moderated by César Lapuente of SEGITTUR. Prominent participants include leaders from Techfriendly, Dinamiza, Sien Consulting, Infyde, and THR Consulting.
- 5.00 pm: Roundtable discussion unveiling the outcomes of the Future Tourism project, moderated by Elisa Carbonell, Director General of Business Internationalization at ICEX. Esteemed participants include Carlos Romero of SEGITTUR, Adela Moreda from IDB, Juliana Bettini from IDB, and Karina Fortete from the Municipality of Montevideo (Uruguay).

Thursday, January 25:
- 10.30 am: Unveiling of the Smart Tourist Destination badges.
- 12.00 pm: Roundtable discussion titled “The Smart Destination Platform,” moderated by Enrique Martínez Marín, President of SEGITTUR. Panelists include John Mora, Vice President of the Smart Cities Commission at AMETIC; Inmaculada de Benito, Director of the Department of Tourism, Culture, and Sport at CEOE; Carmen Sánchez, Director of Institutional Relations at DigitalES; Ana Torrent, Director of the Smart Tourism Group at Conectic; and José de la Uz, President of RECI.

Friday, January 26:
- 10.30 am: Roundtable discussion centered on the “Challenges of creating agrotourism experiences,” moderated by Kevin Salvador, an expert in tourism product creation. Panelists include representatives from Mancomunidad Comarca de la Sidra, Vinarós, La Huerta de Abril, and Bolets de Menorca.
- 11.30 am: Roundtable discussion addressing “The transition of the tourism sector to the circular economy,” moderated by Iñaki Gaztelumendi of Verne. Featuring contributions from San Sebastián Turismoa, Turismo Tenerife, Abadía Retuerta, and Salinar de Naval.
- 12.30 pm: Roundtable discussion on the “Roadmap for the tourism sector in business sustainability. Conclusions of the UN Global Compact working group in Spain.” This session includes presentations and insights from Cristina Sánchez, Executive Director of the UN Global Compact in Spain, Silvia Rial, Head of Corporate and Sectoral Sustainability at UN Global Compact Spain, and representatives from various companies of the UN Global Compact Tourism Working Group Spain.
