Thailand and Sri Lanka have embarked on new initiatives in healthcare, tourism, and investment to commemorate 70 years of diplomatic relations, signaling a strengthening of their bilateral ties.
A pivotal discussion was held between the Thai Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Paitoon Mahapannaporn, and Sri Lanka’s Health and Mass Media Minister, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, aimed at bolstering mutual cooperation. The meeting occurred at Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Health and Mass Media, where they explored avenues to deepen their collaboration.
During the meeting, Ambassador Paitoon praised Sri Lanka’s strides in healthcare and pledged Thailand’s continued support to enhance the island nation’s medical services. As part of the celebrations marking the 70th anniversary of their diplomatic ties, an initiative aimed at advancing orthopedic skills will be launched at the Kandy National Hospital. This program is designed to enhance surgical capabilities and foster an exchange of knowledge between orthopedic specialists from both countries.
The dialogue also covered potential growth in Thai investments in Sri Lanka, with a particular focus on leveraging Thailand’s tourism expertise to boost Sri Lankan tourism. The Ambassador highlighted the mutual cultural ties, especially the shared Buddhist heritage, to promote Sri Lanka as a prime travel destination for Thai visitors.
This meeting underscored the durable partnership between the two nations, with a continued focus on collaboration across health, trade, investment, and tourism sectors.
