In 2023, global outbound travel made a remarkable recovery from the pandemic, surging by 33% compared to 2022, according to reports from ITB Berlin and IPK International. This growth brought the sector close to pre-pandemic levels, just 12% below 2019. Asia led the resurgence with over 140% year-on-year growth, although still 37% below 2019 levels.
The rebound was driven by the revival of outbound travel in Asia and a global increase in vacation travel, despite rising travel costs. The United States, Germany, and the United Kingdom emerged as the leading source markets, playing a pivotal role in driving the overall surge in outbound travel.
