Puerto Morelos Completes Major Beach Access Point Rehabilitation to Strengthen Tourism and Infrastructure

Puerto Morelos has successfully completed the rehabilitation of six out of its 13 beach access points, strategically positioned in the town’s Old Town area. These critical access points serve more than 19,000 residents and visitors, playing a central role in the town’s infrastructure. This ambitious project is a pivotal step in boosting the region’s competitiveness within the tourism sector, ensuring Puerto Morelos continues to thrive as a premier destination for travelers.

The initiative addresses years of community feedback, with both locals and tourism service providers highlighting the deteriorating state of the beach access points. The poor conditions were creating safety concerns for both residents and tourists and undermining the town’s appeal compared to other regional destinations.

Revitalizing Key Beach Access Points for Enhanced Accessibility and Safety

The project focused on restoring crucial streets such as Adolfo López Mateos, Ejército Mexicano, Vicente Guerrero, Plutarco Elías Calles, Leona Vicario, and Margarita Maza de Juárez. With a significant investment of 13.6 million pesos funded by the Environmental Sanitation Rights Fund (DSA), the rehabilitation was executed by the municipality’s Public Works Department. The use of climate-resistant, durable materials ensures the longevity of the improvements, tailored to withstand the region’s challenging weather conditions.

Promoting Sustainable Tourism and Long-Term Economic Growth

The rehabilitation of the beach access points is part of a broader initiative aimed at enhancing the town’s tourism and nautical infrastructure. Tourism plays a crucial role in Puerto Morelos’ economy, supporting the livelihoods of countless families. These upgrades are not only expected to improve safety and aesthetics but also foster sustainable growth by attracting more visitors and elevating the town’s charm.

The newly renovated access points feature 1,900 square meters of stamped concrete and 539 square meters of decking crafted from durable sapote wood, selected for its resistance to the area’s harsh climate. Additionally, the project included the planting of 4,000 plants to further beautify the area, enhancing the natural coastal beauty.

A Strategic Investment in Puerto Morelos’ Future

This revitalization represents a major milestone in Puerto Morelos’ ongoing commitment to improving the quality of life for its residents while strengthening its tourism infrastructure. With these enhancements, the town is now even better equipped to maintain its status as a vibrant and attractive destination. The project highlights the municipality’s dedication to promoting sustainable tourism, preserving its cultural heritage, and fostering long-term prosperity for all.

Through this initiative, Puerto Morelos is not only enhancing its infrastructure but also setting the foundation for a resilient, sustainable future, benefitting both residents and visitors for years to come.
