The Office of the Secretary for Economy and Finance is expecting a total of more than a thousand convention and exhibition activities (MICE) to be held in Macau throughout 2023.
The second semester is set to be the high season for the MICE industry.
In the second half of the year, the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) will continue to organize or support various types of conventions or exhibitions scheduled in Macau, involving the tourism, big health, cutting-edge technology, modern finance, culture, and sports industries, among others, said Lei Wai Nong’s office, as quoted by a Portuguese language newspaper.
The full-year of 2023 is expected to see around 170 thousand professional visitors coming from mainland China, Portuguese-speaking countries, and Southeast Asia, according to the same statement.
In the first half of 2023, IPIM organized or provided support to over 200 MICE activities, the office added.
The first quarter of 2023 saw a significant increase in MICE events in Macau, according to data from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC). The total number of MICE events rose by 114.4 per cent (or 111) year-on-year to 208.
