New Zealand Boosts Global Business Events with $3 Million Tourism Investment

 Wednesday, March 12, 2025

The New Zealand Government, in collaboration with the tourism industry, is injecting an additional $3 million into the International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy as part of the expanded Tourism Boost package. The aim is to further enhance the country’s appeal as a top destination for business events.

This new funding will support the growth of Tourism New Zealand’s Conference Assistance Programme, increasing the number of annual conference bids it can assist from 90 to 110. Tourism New Zealand is actively promoting the country as a premier business events hub, encouraging organizations to apply for conference bid support.

Tourism and Hospitality Minister, the Honourable Louise Upston, revealed this investment yesterday, emphasizing that the added initiatives are projected to generate over $30 million in additional economic activity. The funding will be available to a variety of institutions, including universities, that aim to host international conferences in New Zealand, with a focus on attracting at least 200 international delegates.

This initiative is especially aimed at boosting business event attendance during the quieter months, from March to November.

“As we all know, New Zealand is a fantastic place to visit for a conference or incentive, and we’re looking forward to welcoming more high-spending visitors here and giving them a uniquely New Zealand experience,” Tourism New Zealand General Manager New Zealand and Business Events Bjoern Spreitzer said.

“This is an excellent opportunity to pitch New Zealand as a world-class location for business events and showcase our many new conference facilities and experiences on offer around the country.”

Tourism New Zealand will manage the program in partnership with local cities, venues, and the broader tourism sector.
