Nevis is making a big leap toward becoming a major Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) destination with a single message: the island is open for world-class events and ready to treat visitors with a distinct experience. In a decisive step toward that vision, the Nevis Tourism Authority recently appointed Shelisia T. Glasford as its new Director of VIP and MICE Services, a new leadership role responsible for promoting the island’s profile in the very competitive MICE market.
With a focus on appealing to high-spender visitors and forming partnerships with foreign planners and high-end event markets, Nevis is becoming a premier destination in luxury and corporate Caribbean events. In its effort to market itself as a unique destination to host events, the island is employing its luxury infrastructure, tranquil nature, and natural landscapes.
Appointing Leadership to lead MICE Vision
Shelisia Glasford, with her extensive international experience, is poised to play a leading role in Nevis’ MICE effort. In her new role as VIP and MICE Services Director, Glasford will be responsible for designing and executing VIP visits and MICE programming. High-level logistics coordination, customized experience arranging, and leadership on strategic partnerships to position Nevis as a leader in global MICE tourism will be among her responsibilities.
“We are delighted to welcome Shelisia Glasford into this crucial role,” said Honourable Mark Brantley, Nevis Premier. “She is a seasoned international professional with a passion for excellence, exactly what Nevis needs as we work to grow our tourism sector and develop our island as a major destination for discerning visitors and international-class events.”
Distinguished History of Excellence in Luxury Hospitality
Glasford’s luxury hospitality experience is more than a decade old, and she has perfected operational excellence, guest experience, and leadership. It all began in 2011 when she began her career at St. Kitts Marriott Resort and Royal Beach Casino and sowed a seed of a quality-service and efficient-operations-based career. In between, she had stints in several senior roles at Park Hyatt St. Kitts as its Executive Housekeeper, Assistant Front Office Manager, and Assistant Guest Experiences Manager and solidified her high-end-hospitality credentials.
Most recently, Glasford was a Duty Manager at Park Hyatt Sydney, which had perfected her skills to manage sophisticated guest needs and provide best-in-class service in one of the world’s most aggressive luxury hotel markets. Moreover, her education in International Hospitality by studying at well-respected schools such as César Ritz Colleges Switzerland and Les Roches Spain also underpins her credentials for this key role.
Continuing to Enhance MICE Offerings with Four Seasons Nevis at its Core The linchpin of Nevis’ MICE plan is its flagship and best large-scale event facility on St. Kitts and Nevis, the Four Seasons Nevis. Offering luxury accommodations and stunning vistas, the Four Seasons will serve as anchor property for MICE activity on Nevis with state-of-the-art meeting facilities and event spaces and customized services tailored to corporate occasions, incentive retreats, and luxury conferences.
The Four Seasons Nevis offers a great combination of luxury, exclusivity, and affordability and as such is an ideal destination for events that require a tranquil atmosphere as well as first-class treatment. Nevis, with its tranquil vistas, white beaches, and warm atmosphere, offers a classy and upscale destination for events that are unique as opposed to ordinary, mass-standard venues elsewhere in the Caribbean.
Nevis: A Sophisticated Location for High-Profile Events
The Nevis Tourism Authority’s concerted effort to develop MICE tourism is a reflection of the evolving face of tourism on Nevis. No longer a single-trick vacation getaway, Nevis is becoming a hub for small, luxury meetings, incentive travel itineraries, and niche events. With a blend of rugged terrain, luxury accommodations, and personalized services, Nevis is exploiting a new niche in its tourism segment focused on generating first-class experiences among corporate and VIP travelers.
“We’re delighted to have Shelisia on board as we strive to grow Nevis’ appeal as a destination for MICE tourism,” said Pamela Martin, Board of Directors Chair, Nevis Tourism Authority. “She boasts a track record of innovation, leadership and a desire to deliver best-in-class guest experiences and this will be invaluable as we grow our international profile and attract high-end meeting and convention planners to the island.”
The tranquil atmosphere of the island and emphasis on providing tailored and memorable event experiences place Nevis as an ideal destination for conferences and incentive travel. In a more and more competitive world market for MICE, Nevis is working to become a leader in providing high-end, sophisticated events that have a special something to give to the visitor.
Bright Prospect for Nevis in Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions
Led by Shelisia Glasford and assisted in strategy by the Nevis Tourism Authority, the island is ready to make a mark on the MICE industry. Cooperation between Nevis and high-end venues like the Four Seasons is behind the development of luxury activity on the island because no other market can match a tailored and unique high-end experience. Nevis is making a very clear announcement that not only is it a stunning vacation destination, but a polished and intimate destination for corporate and business events. As Nevis diversifies its choices for tourism, the island will become more attractive to foreign planners, organizations, and upscale event markets. Its emphasis on first-class service, combined with its unique Caribbean appeal, makes Nevis a very attractive choice for planners with a goal of producing world-class events in a destination that presents a unique experience. The future of MICE tourism in Nevis is encouraging, and with Shelisia Glasford as its leader, the island is poised to become a destination of choice for conferences, exhibitions, incentive travel, and meetings for decades to come.
