Mumbai, Goa, Madgaon and the Konkan coast are receiving additional railway capacity for Ganesh Chaturthi 2026, as Central Railway and Konkan Railway introduce special services to handle the seasonal passenger surge. The programme includes new trains linking Mumbai with destinations across the Konkan region and Goa during the main festival travel period. The official 2026 schedule includes special services between Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and Madgaon Junction, alongside additional trains serving Sawantwadi Road and Ratnagiri. These services are designed to provide more travel options during the peak period from September 2026. For travellers, the additional trains create more choices for reaching Goa and Konkan destinations by rail. They also provide direct access to popular stops along the coastal route, including Thivim, Karmali, Kankavli, Sindhudurg, Kudal, Ratnagiri and Sawantwadi Road.
Mumbai-Madgaon Services Add Direct Capacity
One of the most significant additions for Goa-bound passengers is the Lokmanya Tilak Terminus–Madgaon Junction Special, operating on two dates during the festival period.
Train 01165 will depart Lokmanya Tilak Terminus at 00:45 on 15 and 22 September 2026, reaching Madgaon Junction at 14:30 the same day. The return service, train 01166, will leave Madgaon at 16:30 on the same dates and reach Lokmanya Tilak Terminus at 07:10 the following morning.
The service has 21 LHB coaches, including one First AC coach, three 2-Tier AC coaches, 15 3-Tier AC coaches and two generator cars.
The route includes several important Konkan and Goa stations, making it useful for passengers travelling beyond Madgaon.
Goa Gains More Festival Travel Options
Madgaon provides an important railway gateway for travellers heading into Goa. From the station, visitors can continue towards South Goa’s beaches, heritage areas, restaurants and accommodation centres.
The special service also stops at Thivim and Karmali, giving passengers access to different parts of Goa rather than concentrating all festival travel through one railway station.
This creates additional flexibility for visitors planning holidays around the Ganesh Chaturthi period. Travellers can select accommodation and sightseeing locations according to the most convenient railway station.

Central Railway is also operating additional Mumbai CSMT–Sawantwadi Road services during the festival period.
Train 01103 will run daily from Mumbai CSMT between 11 and 26 September, departing at 15:30 and reaching Sawantwadi Road at 04:00 the following day. The return train, 01104, will operate daily from 12 to 27 September.
A second daily service, 01151/01152, will also connect Mumbai CSMT and Sawantwadi Road from 11 to 27 September, providing another option for passengers heading into southern Konkan.
Both services include 22 coaches, with AC 3-Tier, Sleeper and General accommodation.
Ratnagiri Gets Dedicated Special Trains
Passengers travelling towards Ratnagiri will also have additional capacity during the festival.
Train 01153 will operate daily from Mumbai CSMT to Ratnagiri from 11 to 26 September, departing at 11:30 and reaching Ratnagiri at 20:25. The return service 01154 will run from 12 to 27 September.
Ratnagiri is one of the most important destinations on the Konkan coast, providing access to beaches, coastal villages, forts, temples and the wider Ratnagiri district.
For travellers, the additional service creates another option for combining festival travel with a coastal holiday.
Konkan Destinations Gain Better Connectivity
The special trains stop at numerous stations across the Konkan Railway network. These include Panvel, Roha, Mangaon, Khed, Chiplun, Ratnagiri, Kankavli, Sindhudurg, Kudal and Sawantwadi Road.
The route gives passengers access to a diverse tourism region stretching along Maharashtra’s Arabian Sea coastline.

The daily 01171/01172 service between Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and Sawantwadi Road will run from 11 to 27 September, while the five-days-a-week 01167/01168 service will connect Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and Ratnagiri between 12 and 27 September.
These additional departures give passengers more choice around departure times and destinations.
