The MICE sector in Myanmar will get a boost with the opening of a modernized convention center in the country’s second largest city of Mandalay. A soft opening of it will be launched on March 23, an official report said Tuesday.
The Mandalay Convention Center is the one built after Yangon and Nay Pyi Taw Convention Centers.
The 25-million-USD Mandalay Convention Center project is being implemented by two private companies in partnership.
The project is being constructed in three phases on a plot of land of 5.98 hectares with the first phase being the convention center, while the second phase includes the building of hotels, offices, shopping centers and condominium and the third phase includes arts and entertainment facilities and an amusement park.
The project’s first phase is set to be completed by June and the whole project is expected to finish in 2019.
The convention center will be used to host exhibitions, seminars and conferences at the same time giving a fillip to the country’s MICE tourism.
