Melbourne’s reputation as a global leader in medical research will be further strengthened with the Allan Labor Government announcing the city will host the Global Hepatitis Summit 2027.
Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos today announced that Melbourne’s successful bid to host the summit reinforces the city’s reputation as a premier destination for global medical conferences – in a win for local hotels, restaurants and businesses.
The Melbourne Convention Bureau (MCB), in collaboration with the Labor Government, the Burnet Institute, and the Doherty Institute, has secured the hosting rights for the 2027 Global Hepatitis Summit, a prestigious event that is expected to draw nearly one thousand attendees from across the globe.
The biennial summit serves as a platform for global experts and practitioners to explore the latest advancements in liver disease, including viral hepatitis, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and hepatocellular carcinoma. The event will also provide an opportunity for attendees from various fields to share insights and collaborate on innovative research over four days.
The 2027 summit will spotlight Melbourne’s internationally renowned research facilities, while also positioning Australia as a global leader in hepatitis research. This event highlights Victoria’s status as a hub for medical research excellence.
In addition to the Global Hepatitis Summit, Melbourne is set to host several other significant international medical events in the coming years, including the World Cancer Leaders’ Summit 2025, the World Congress of Gastroenterology 2025, and the International Diabetes Federation’s Western Pacific Regional Congress 2026.
