Valletta Becomes a Meeting Point for Global Tourism

The World Travel & Tourism Council has confirmed that more than 1,000 delegates from over 100 countries are expected to attend, including more than 200 leading Travel & Tourism CEOs, senior executives and government leaders. The gathering will cover hospitality, aviation, cruise, travel technology, financial services, destination investment and travel distribution. World Travel & Tourism Council
For Malta, hosting the summit brings together an unusually large concentration of international tourism decision-makers in one destination. The event also provides an opportunity for delegates to explore Valletta and the Maltese Islands alongside the business programme.

Canada Spain and the US Join the Tourism Spotlight

Canada, Spain and the United States are among the countries represented by prominent speakers announced for the summit. Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has been confirmed as a headline speaker, while former Spanish Prime Minister José María Aznar and U.S. Tourism Minister Nick Adams are also scheduled to participate. Tourism Investment and AI Take Centre Stage

The 2026 summit will operate under the theme “FUTU[RE]SET”, with discussions focused on the forces changing global Travel & Tourism. Investment, artificial intelligence, emerging technologies, aviation connectivity, destination development, sustainability and changing traveller expectations are among the key subjects on the programme. These themes have direct implications for destinations and travellers. Investment can influence hotel development and visitor infrastructure, while aviation connectivity can determine how easily travellers reach emerging and established destinations.

Malta Showcases Its Mediterranean Travel Appeal

Beyond the conference programme, Valletta offers delegates access to one of Europe’s most distinctive historic capitals. The city is a UNESCO World Heritage destination known for its historic architecture, cultural attractions and Mediterranean setting. World Travel & Tourism Council
Visitors attending the summit can also explore the wider Maltese Islands, extending a business trip into a broader leisure experience. Malta combines historic sites, coastal scenery, cultural attractions, hospitality and relatively compact travel distances, making it possible for delegates to experience several parts of the destination during a short stay.

A Tourism Event With Wider Destination Impact

The summit is also significant for Malta’s tourism economy. WTTC forecasts that Travel & Tourism will contribute US$4.9 billion to Malta’s economy in 2026, representing 16.9% of GDP and supporting around 72,200 jobs. World Travel & Tourism Council
The arrival of international executives, government representatives and media creates additional exposure for Valletta and Malta as a tourism and business-events destination. WTTC has also highlighted the opportunity to showcase Malta’s hospitality, heritage, connectivity and visitor experiences to influential international audiences. World Travel & Tourism Council
