Haiti, Maldives, Cambodia and Seychelles are among 24 destinations currently accessible to holders of an Afghanistan passport without obtaining a traditional visa in advance, according to the 2024 data compiled by the Henley & Partners.

If you are mapping out international travel possibilities with an Afghanistan passport, the list is compact but geographically diverse. From Indian Ocean island retreats to African safari routes and Pacific archipelagos, these entry points represent the available tourism corridors in 2024.

The Henley Passport Index, based on data from the International Air Transport Association, places Afghanistan at 104th position this year, with access to 24 destinations offering either visa-free entry or visa-on-arrival facilities.

Island Escapes in the Indian Ocean and Caribbean

Among the most recognized tourism destinations on the list is the Maldives. Known for overwater villas, coral reefs and resort islands, Maldives grants visa-on-arrival access, making it one of the most tourism-focused gateways available. Direct international connections from regional hubs make the country a practical leisure option.

In the Caribbean, Haiti provides visa-free or facilitated access. Travelers can explore historical sites in Cap-Haïtien, coastal scenery and cultural festivals that reflect the country’s Creole heritage.

The Indian Ocean destination of Seychelles also appears on the list. The archipelago is recognized for its granite beaches, marine parks and visa-on-arrival system designed to support tourism flows.

African Safari and Coastal Routes

A significant portion of accessible destinations lies across Africa. Countries offering visa-free or visa-on-arrival entry include Mauritius, Rwanda, Mozambique, Senegal and Zimbabwe.

Mauritius combines beaches with cultural districts in Port Louis. Rwanda promotes gorilla trekking permits and conference tourism in Kigali. Mozambique offers Indian Ocean coastlines and diving near the Bazaruto Archipelago. Senegal provides Atlantic-facing cities such as Dakar, while Zimbabwe includes access points for Victoria Falls tourism.

Other African nations on the list are Burundi, Cape Verde, Comoros, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Guinea-Bissau, Madagascar, Mauritania, Sierra Leone, Somalia and Togo.

Madagascar is known for biodiversity tourism and baobab landscapes. Cape Verde supports beach and music tourism. Ethiopia remains home to UNESCO-listed heritage sites in Lalibela and Axum. These countries offer structured entry processes at airports or land borders, usually requiring on-arrival documentation and fees.

Short Asian List with Cultural Focus

In Asia, the accessible destinations are limited but include established tourism markets. Cambodia grants visa-on-arrival access, connecting travelers to Angkor Wat and Phnom Penh’s riverfront districts.

Macau, officially a Special Administrative Region of China, provides facilitated entry for tourism visits centered on heritage squares and entertainment complexes.

Timor-Leste and Maldives complete the Asian segment. Timor-Leste features coral reefs and mountainous inland regions suited for eco-tourism planning.

Pacific Archipelagos and Remote Tourism

In Oceania, entry is available to Samoa, Tuvalu, Palau, Micronesia, and the associated territories of Cook Islands and Niue.

These Pacific destinations focus heavily on marine tourism, diving expeditions and small-scale eco-resorts. Due to their geographic isolation, most travel routes require transit through larger hubs in Asia or Australia before onward flights.

Understanding Visa-on-Arrival Travel

For many of the 24 destinations, visa-on-arrival is the standard procedure. This means travelers complete immigration documentation and pay a designated fee at the airport or border crossing. Requirements typically include proof of accommodation, return tickets and sufficient funds for the stay.

While pre-departure embassy visits are not necessary for these locations, airline check-in staff generally verify eligibility before boarding. Up-to-date confirmation with destination embassies remains part of trip planning.

Tourism Planning Within Limited Corridors

The 24 accessible destinations span the Caribbean, Africa, Asia and Oceania, offering beach tourism, wildlife experiences, religious heritage sites and island exploration opportunities. Major Western economies and large European tourism hubs are not included in the current access list.

According to Henley & Partners’ 2024 update, Afghanistan passport holders remain limited to these 24 global entry points without a prior visa application. Travelers planning outbound tourism must factor in regional flight connections, transit visa requirements and seasonal weather patterns when organizing itineraries.
