While the Québec City Convention Centre’s economic impact is undeniable, its benefit to the community is also impressive.
For instance, thanks to the Loblaw 2014 National Kick-off, which ends today, Moisson Québec will receive the equivalent of three 53-foot trailers filled with perishable and non-perishable food items to be redistributed to local organizations.
Persons in need in the Québec City area will enjoy tangible benefits from the presence of Loblaw, which is hosting its event outside of Toronto for the first time.
The Québec City Convention Centre team is also deeply involved in the food donation distribution chain.
Two-thirds of the staff—a total of 45 people—have volunteered today to package and handle the food items donated by some 130 suppliers.
That is equivalent to a Provigo Le Marché, Loblaw’s new grocery store format. The Moisson Québec trucks will transport these donations to warehouses for storage until they are distributed to the community.
“The Québec City Convention Centre is very proud to host the first Loblaw event in Québec City.
We are also grateful to Loblaw for this incredible donation of food for those in need,” said P.-Michel Bouchard, CEO of the Québec City Convention Centre.
“This wonderful collaboration between Loblaw and the Québec City Convention Centre will provide Moisson Québec with a wide variety of food items to help feed the 32,000 people who rely on food aid every month,” added Élaine Côté, Executive Director of Moisson Québec.
