The Chumathang Hot Spring in Ladakh is set to become a prominent eco-tourism destination, with ongoing initiatives to convert the locale into a dynamic center for tourists. This project is dedicated to sustainable tourism practices and aims to draw tourists through its scenic allure and healing properties.
Covering an area of about 12.5 acres, the plan includes a variety of eco-conscious elements and crucial amenities. The proposed additions feature dining areas, therapeutic pools, hydrotherapy facilities, and local Amchi stations that showcase indigenous healing methods. The plan also proposes the establishment of a Sowa-Rigpa satellite therapy center to enhance the hydrotherapy offerings.
Central to the development is the construction of a shopping complex with a kiosk market, aimed at creating communal spaces for visitors. Rehabilitation facilities are also planned to bolster sustainable tourism efforts in the area.
The design will prioritize eco-friendly building practices and a Net Metering scheme to further energy conservation. The objective is to develop the area in harmony with eco-tourism principles, reducing environmental footprint while providing a distinctive visitor experience.
Situated about 138 km from Leh by the Indus River, the Chumathang Hot Spring is renowned for its health-enhancing features, particularly its sulfur-rich waters, which draw those in search of natural therapeutic benefits.
This project underscores Ladakh’s dedication to fostering responsible tourism that safeguards its environmental and cultural legacy.
