la-times-travel-showThe 16th annual Los Angeles Times Travel Show, Southern California’s must-attend travel event of the year, brought together more than 22,700 celebrity speakers, travel professionals, industry experts, members of the media and consumers at the L.A. Convention Center, January 17-19, for an inspired variety of ideas and places to explore, plenty of ways to discover how to become a better traveler and the services needed to go just about anywhere.

Headliners Alyssa Milano (UNICEF Ambassador, host of “Project Runway All Stars”), Adam Richman (host of “Adam Richman’s Fandemonium,” author of “America the Edible”), Henry Rollins (musician, activist, author of “Smile, You’re Traveling”) and Arthur Frommer (publisher of more than 340 Frommer’s travel guides) were joined by an impressive roster of authorities on a variety of topics, including Johnny Jet (JohnnyJet.com), Kevin Coffey (police detective, expert in travel crime avoidance), Brian Kelly (The Points Guy), Betto Arcos (Global Village), Bill Esparza (Street Gourmet LA), Andy Murdock (Airbnb), Ed Kushins (HomeExchange.com), and Nico Melendez (TSA), each sharing road-tested tips for getting the most out of travel experiences.

This year’s show featured an expanded LA Times area where award-winning journalists hosted salons with their favorite experts on international sports events, major music fests and useful travel tech, as well as a presentation on The Times’ signature “Postcards From the West” series. The Travel Smart stage had a full schedule of mini-seminars on the best of Europe for 2014, getting the most from your vacation budget, staying connected on the road, travel safety and the latest in alternative lodging. Over at the Flavors of the World kitchen, acclaimed chefs treated audiences to cooking demos and samples of regional cuisine. Attendees were also entertained by live cultural performances and had access to a screening room showing travel films and reader-submitted vacation videos.

The show floor was filled with exhibitors from near and far offering travel services, products and advice, as well as show-only specials and giveaways. Travel Show exhibitors created a lively and colorful environment with exotic dishes, live musical performances, engaging displays and a wealth of information. Standout exhibitors Guam Visitors Bureau (Best in Show), Chumash Casino Resort (People’s Choice), AMResorts (Best Design and Décor), Singapore Airlines and Changi Airport Singapore (Most Innovative), Cruise Planners (Most Interactive), Tourism Malaysia (Best Use of Space), and Villa del Palmar Beach Resort & Spa at the Islands of Loreto (Rookie of the Year) were presented with awards from the show organizers. The complete exhibitor list is available on the Travel Show site.

The three-day series of events, including the trade day for travel industry professionals and weekend show open to the public, is produced by the LA Times in collaboration with MSE Management and IMG Worldwide. Sponsors included Changi Airport Singapore, Guam Visitors Bureau, LatinEscapes.com, Singapore Airlines, Turkish Culture and Tourism Office, Villa del Palmar Beach Resort & Spa at the Islands of Loreto, and Incredible India.
