Koh Samui, Thailand is stepping further into the spotlight of Asian island tourism as Club Med moves ahead with a new beachfront resort that links air access, private shoreline, family-focused programming and premium all-inclusive travel on one of the country’s best-known leisure islands. The project places Koh Samui at the center of another long-term tourism expansion story, this time built around a resort expected to bring more upscale capacity to the island while widening Thailand’s profile in the premium holiday market.
Club Med has announced the signing of a Hotel Management Agreement for a new Exclusive Collection resort in Koh Samui in partnership with Central Group Capital, adding a significant new hospitality project to the island’s tourism pipeline. The resort is scheduled to open in the latter half of 2028 and will become Club Med’s first Exclusive Collection property in Thailand and its second property in the country after Club Med Phuket.
For tourism, that matters because Koh Samui already serves a broad visitor mix that includes beach holiday travelers, honeymooners, wellness guests and family vacationers. Adding a large international all-inclusive resort gives the destination another product type that can attract travelers looking for integrated accommodation, dining, activities and on-site leisure in one booking.
One of the most practical details for travelers is location. The resort is planned on Koh Samui’s northern shoreline and is expected to sit around a 25-minute drive from Koh Samui Airport, giving visitors relatively direct access from arrival to resort stay without the long overland transfers often associated with island travel.
The beachfront element is also central to the tourism value of the project. More than 200 meters of private beach will form part of the resort footprint, reinforcing Koh Samui’s appeal as a destination where travelers often prioritize sea access, outdoor leisure, tropical scenery and resort-based stays over city-style itineraries.
The upcoming resort is expected to feature 303 rooms along with sports and leisure offerings, upgraded facilities and new dining concepts, all of which point to a broad tourism appeal rather than a narrow niche product. Club Med’s signature programs including Kids Club and Amazing Family are also part of the announced plan, which places family travel clearly within the resort’s target market alongside premium holiday demand.
That has clear implications for Koh Samui’s tourism mix. Family travelers typically look for convenience, bundled pricing, recreation for different age groups and easy internal mobility once they arrive, so a full-service resort model can strengthen the island’s appeal for longer stays and multi-generational travel.
Club Med says the resort will be inspired by Thai heritage and natural surroundings, linking the property’s design direction to the island’s wider destination identity rather than treating it only as a standalone luxury compound. That is an important tourism detail because Koh Samui’s brand has long depended on a mix of tropical coastlines, Thai cultural atmosphere, hospitality traditions and relaxed island living.
In practical travel terms, this means the resort is expected to fit into broader visitor itineraries that may include beach time, dining, wellness experiences and local exploration across the island. For international travelers, especially those combining Samui with Bangkok, Phuket or other Thai destinations, the project adds another high-end stay option within Thailand’s established leisure circuit.
The Koh Samui announcement also reflects a wider tourism movement in Thailand, where beach destinations continue to attract investment aimed at higher-spending international segments. With this development, Club Med is expanding its footprint in Thailand beyond Phuket and adding the country to its Exclusive Collection map, which currently spans 21 properties including resorts, villas, chalets and a yacht.
That expansion matters for tourism because international hotel and resort brands often shape how airlines, tour operators and long-haul travel sellers package destinations. As Koh Samui adds more recognized luxury inventory, the island may become easier to market as a premium beach destination for travelers seeking structured, service-led resort holidays in Southeast Asia.
Although bookings are not yet open and further details will be released closer to launch, the development already adds momentum to Koh Samui’s longer-term tourism outlook. New accommodation supply, especially in the premium all-inclusive segment, can influence future travel planning by expanding room inventory, diversifying price tiers and supporting year-round positioning for leisure travel.
For Koh Samui, the story is therefore bigger than one hotel announcement. The island is using access, beachfront appeal, family-ready resort infrastructure and global brand investment to strengthen its place in Thailand’s tourism economy, with the new Club Med project set to become another gateway for visitors choosing Samui as a base for tropical holidays in the years ahead.
