An initial investment of about Rs 25 crore has been sanctioned for the establishment of a MICE (Meeting, Incentive, Conference, and Exhibition) center in Jodhpur, which is increasingly renowned for hosting national and international events. The sanction was made by Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.
MICE tourism, which is rapidly growing in Rajasthan, provides a plethora of options in the tourism sector.
According to a tourism department official, the MICE center would be erected on 5,650 square meters of land on the campus of the Women Polytechnic College, for which the Jodhpur Development Authority has granted 65,000 square meters.
The first phase will include the construction of an exhibition hall, registration and information center, administration block, VIP lounge, trade and business meeting space, and a parking area, according to the official.
Gehlot promised the establishment of MICE centers for international-level meetings and exhibits in the renowned tourism hubs of Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, and Ajmer in his 2023-24 Budget. Each of these centers would cost around Rs 100 crore.
The Tourism Development Fund’s budget was boosted from about Rs 1,000 crore to Rs 1,500 crore this year in order to enhance tourism.
The state held the 12th Great Indian Travel Bazaar in April, which drew 283 travel companies from 56 different countries. A similar event, the Rajasthan Domestic Travel Mart (RDTM), was conducted this month, with 200 dealers and an equivalent number of purchasers in attendance. These occurrences show that Rajasthan is well-positioned to become a leader in the MICE tourism sector as well.
Rajasthan has everything needed for a thriving tourism industry, including well-known tourist attractions, historical sites, distinct heritage villages and Shilpgrams, experiential tourism, desert tourism, adventure tourism, wildlife and ecotourism, tribal tourism, cultural tourism, craft and cuisine tourism, weekend getaway tourism, religious tourism, wedding tourism, wellness tourism (medical tourism), rural tourism, and film tourism.
