IHCL Accelerates India’s Green Hospitality Movement with Renewable Energy Milestone Across 51 Hotels
The Indian Hotels Company (IHCL), a leader in India’s hospitality industry, is accelerating its shift to sustainable energy by embedding clean power across its hotel operations. Under its ESG+ framework Paathya, the company has made a landmark achievement in FY 2024-25 — successfully integrating renewable energy into 51 of its properties across the country.
In a standout move, 13 IHCL hotels have fully transitioned to operating on 100% renewable energy. This milestone emphasizes the brand’s intensified focus on eco-friendly hospitality and its strategic blueprint to reduce carbon emissions. IHCL is actively deploying a mix of on-site solar installations, long-term clean energy purchase agreements, and remote power sourcing to meet its sustainability targets.
This strategic energy shift not only shrinks IHCL’s environmental footprint but also strengthens its position as a pioneer of green hospitality in India. At a time when climate change is influencing global business models, IHCL’s renewable-first approach is setting new standards for sustainable hotel operations in the region.
Through Paathya, IHCL continues to drive forward its green energy ambitions. The company now sources more than 35% of its overall energy requirements from renewable means, equating to a remarkable annual consumption of over 410 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of clean electricity.
Hotels in Maharashtra are leading this energy revolution, generating over 66 million kWh annually through extensive solar panel networks. Southern states like Tamil Nadu and Karnataka are also making critical contributions, with wind power installations collectively producing nearly 60 million kWh of green energy every year.
IHCL’s clean energy efforts form a crucial part of its wider sustainability roadmap — combining resource efficiency, environmental stewardship, and responsible growth. With a current portfolio of 380 hotels and ongoing expansion, the company is embedding sustainability into its business DNA.
This bold commitment underscores IHCL’s vision to shape a future-ready hospitality industry, one that thrives on operational resilience, climate-conscious decisions, and deep-rooted sustainability values.
