IFEMA has recently been named the Best Convention Centre in the World ifeat the first ever World MICE Awards, a global initiative to recognise excellence in the travel, tourism and hospitality sectors. Over the years, IFEMA has been promoting its MICE activity by organising events and trade fairs, and hosting large international events and congresses with thousands of attendees.
In 2019 alone, the institution hosted 749 conventions and professional events, in addition to 18 large conferences with exhibition, 25% and 125% more, respectively, than the previous year. Organisers from all over the world rely on IFEMA every year, holding important international events in its venues, such as the ERS Annual Congress 2019, EADV Congress 2019, World ATM Congress 2012 to 2019 and Reale Seguros Madrid Fusión, among others.
Along these lines, IFEMA’s MICE activity has also boosted Madrid’s positioning in these awards as the Best Tourism Destination for Meetings in Europe, an award it has received for the third consecutive year, drawing attention to what is on offer in business tourism in the Spanish capital compared to other large European cities, such as Barcelona, Vienna, Paris or Berlin.
Jose Vicente de los Mozos, President, IFEMA said in a statement that the recognition represents a strong boost to IFEMA’s strategy of being an international reference for the business tourism sector and contributing to the dynamism and wealth of Madrid. He shared that the strategy also focused on digitalisation, where many resources are currently being devoted in order to gain much more international weight and reach new markets.
