Hong Kong is preparing for a significant shift in its tourism sector with the launch of the “Development Blueprint for Hong Kong’s Tourism Industry 2.0.”
This forward-thinking initiative was revealed by Angelina Cheung, JP, the Commissioner for Tourism, at the PATA Power of Networking and Luncheon 2025, held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) on February 20.
Organized by the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) in collaboration with the Exhibition Group and Plaza Premium Group, the event drew over 20 prominent leaders from Hong Kong SAR and the Greater Bay Area (GBA). Key attendees included representatives from the Tourism Commission, the Culture, Sports & Tourism Bureau, the Hong Kong Tourism Board, Shangri-La Group, Trip.com, and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University’s School of Hotel and Tourism Management, among others.
A pivotal moment of the event was the unveiling of the “Development Blueprint for Hong Kong’s Tourism Industry 2.0” by Ms. Cheung, which outlines the city’s plans to solidify its position as a premier global tourism destination. The blueprint envisions the integration of tourism with culture, sports, ecology, and large-scale events. After her presentation, Ms. Cheung engaged in a fireside chat and a lively Q&A session.
The event also saw the participation of Mr. Soon-Hwa Wong, PATA Ambassador for Greater China, who highlighted PATA’s commitment to supporting its members across Hong Kong SAR and the Greater Bay Area.
Following the luncheon, attendees participated in the grand opening of the Hong Kong Holiday & Travel Expo 2025. The four-day B2C exhibition, which featured over 300 booths, shattered attendance records, attracting more than 250,000 visitors—a remarkable 27% increase from the previous year.
