As the umbrella event for both the 39th ITE Leisure and 20th ITE MICE, ITE remains Asia’s leading international travel fair, bringing together a vibrant mix of global exhibitors and visitors. This year, special attention is given to the rebound of the premium FIT (Free Independent Traveler) market, which has proven crucial in tourism’s post-COVID resurgence. ITE serves as a powerful platform connecting tourism boards, travel agencies, consumers, and industry experts in a dynamic environment fostering business and inspiration.

A Cornerstone of Hong Kong’s Travel Comeback

Following years of disruption, ITE has experienced a significant resurgence, fueled by the revival of outbound tourism. The 2024 edition saw 515 exhibitors, with 87% coming from overseas, representing 68 countries and regions. More than 70,000 public visitors attended, with an overwhelming 90% identifying as FIT travelers, signaling a massive shift toward personalized, independent travel experiences.

Hong Kong’s outbound travel surged by 45% in 2024, with 104 million departures. Impressively, spending by outbound travelers reached 84% of pre-pandemic levels, despite package tour recovery lagging behind at under 50%. This widening gap emphasizes the growing dominance of FIT and private travel segments, now the focal point for industry stakeholders shaping the future of travel in and out of Hong Kong.

Premium FIT Travelers: The New Powerhouse of Outbound Tourism

The premium FIT segment has emerged as the cornerstone of Hong Kong’s travel rebound. Data from ITE 2024 revealed that nine out of ten public attendees prefer independent or small group travel, with many identifying as frequent travelers with a strong interest in luxury experiences. This group is not only responsible for driving volume but also increasing average spending, making them a high-value demographic.

When it comes to destinations, Northeast and Southeast Asia are the top choices, attracting 52.1% of prospective travelers. Notably, 31.3% plan to explore Southeast Asia, while 16.6% have their eyes set on long-haul, non-Asian destinations. These trends underline the importance of customized, experience-rich itineraries that cater to the needs of discerning travelers seeking exclusivity and value.

Comprehensive B2B and B2C Experiences at ITE 2025

ITE Hong Kong 2025 will once again bridge B2B and B2C sectors, creating a well-rounded platform for collaboration and engagement. On the B2B front, the fair offers structured buyer-seller meetings, pre- and post-show promotions, and direct access to decision-makers. Nearly 80 seminars held in 2024 attracted over 7,000 industry professionals, delving into vital topics such as sustainable tourism, evolving consumer behavior, and digital innovation.

Meanwhile, the B2C segment emphasizes interactive consumer experiences. Visitors can engage directly with exhibitors, uncover emerging travel destinations, and instantly book packages using QR codes and mobile devices. This digital-first approach ensures a smooth, contactless journey from discovery to booking, enhancing convenience for both exhibitors and travelers.

Spotlight on High-End, Custom Travel

The recovery of Hong Kong’s outbound tourism hinges largely on the growth of FIT and private group travel, especially within the luxury and premium market. Today’s travelers seek more than just destinations—they want bespoke experiences, whether that’s a private cultural tour, a luxury retreat, or a behind-the-scenes look at a hidden gem.

For exhibitors, this opens doors to tailor offerings for high-spending, frequent travelers. Crafting value-added itineraries—such as those with personalized service, private transport, VIP airport handling, and deluxe stays—can help vendors capitalize on this growing niche. Those who cater to the premium FIT audience will be strategically positioned to benefit from this shift in travel demand.

A Truly International Stage for Travel Professionals

ITE Hong Kong 2025 will draw a diverse, global mix of exhibitors and visitors, with a notable concentration from the Greater Bay Area, including Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou. In fact, 74% of trade visitors hail from this vibrant region. Mainland China continues to be a pivotal market, representing 28% of buyers and 18% of overseas trade attendees.

This regional synergy is bolstered by the Greater Bay Area’s combined GDP of US$1.97 trillion. With US$22.7 billion spent on outbound travel in 2023 alone, the region offers immense opportunity for tourism stakeholders. ITE acts as a gateway for international brands seeking to establish or expand their presence in this economically dynamic zone.

Looking Ahead: ITE 2025 as a Catalyst for Tourism’s Future

Far more than just a travel exhibition, ITE Hong Kong 2025 stands as a strategic hub for global tourism development. As the industry pivots toward personalized, premium, and sustainable travel, the event offers critical opportunities for business growth, knowledge exchange, and market expansion.

With its status as a MEGA EVENT, ITE 2025 signals Hong Kong’s strong return to the international tourism arena. Whether you’re a supplier, buyer, or traveler, this event offers a front-row seat to the future of travel.
