Guests aboard Holland America Line’s Grand World Voyage and Grand Voyage: Pole to Pole experienced a remarkable gathering in Barcelona, Spain, on April 24, 2025, marking a milestone event for the cruise line. This special occasion occurred during the simultaneous overnight visits of the Zuiderdam and Volendam, both on extended journeys.
This marks the first time the cruise line has offered two Grand Voyages, each exceeding 120 days, at the same time. To commemorate this unique event, the cruise line organized a range of exclusive activities, including a Spanish-themed afternoon tea, regionally inspired dining experiences, vibrant deck parties, and an eye-catching drone light show.
The Zuiderdam is currently on a 124-day Grand World Voyage that departed from Fort Lauderdale on January 4, 2025, while the Volendam is undertaking a 133-day Grand Voyage: Pole to Pole, which set sail on January 25, 2025.
In Barcelona, the Zuiderdam hosted a special afternoon tea, providing a wonderful opportunity for passengers from both ships to connect and enjoy one another’s company. The evening continued with matching regional menus in the main dining rooms of both ships, offering delicacies such as white asparagus cream soup, fresh salmon with chanterelle mushrooms, surf and turf with saffron risotto, Catalan crème flan, San Sebastian-style cheesecake, and cold brew carajillo.
The night’s entertainment included dueling shipboard parties on the aft pool deck, with lively music, complimentary drinks, and a variety of culinary offerings. The festivities culminated with a spectacular drone show that showcased breathtaking scenes from destinations visited during the journey, including penguins in Antarctica, Carnival dancers in Brazil, Moai statues on Easter Island, the Sydney Opera House, and the ancient pyramids of Egypt.
