glebe islandAs the 48th Sydney International Boat Show draws near, various crews are busy transforming Glebe Island and Darling Harbour into a floating and indoor show for the largest recreational marine event in the southern hemisphere.

Over the next few days at Glebe Island, hundreds of watercraft, from kayaks to speed boats, 151 exhibitor stands and an external 600 square metre marquee for a dining lounge, will be installed in preparation for the crowd-drawing annual event.

“It’s all hands on deck as we welcome back one of the world’s leading boat shows,” said Malu Barrios, General Manager of Sydney Exhibition Centre @ Glebe Island (SEC@GI).

“It is also one of our most logistically challenging events and we’re up for it, what with boats of different sizes as well as all manner of boating gear being moved into the full footprint of the Centre including Hall 5. Always popular with visitors, Historic Boats, including one power boosted by a World War II plane engine will feature heavily this year after an absence in 2014. And there’s even a hefty penguin submarine to showcase!” she added.

Running from 30 July to 3 August this year, the Boat Show has been an eagerly anticipated fixture in the event calendar since 1968, catering to the Australian passion for the outdoors and boating lifestyle. The Show’s two great locations – an indoor venue at SEC@GI and floating displays at Darling Harbour’s Cockle Bay Marina – offer show-goers of all ages and expertise a multi-faceted experience combining inspiration, education, and entertainment.
