Guam, Tumon and Hagåtña Welcome 200 Global Travel Leaders in a Bold New Tourism Revival

Guam

Guam, Tumon and Hagåtña are at the centre of a major tourism promotion initiative as the Guam Visitors Bureau prepares to welcome more than 200 travel trade professionals, media representatives and digital influencers from key visitor markets for the five-day Guam Mega Familiarisation (FAM) Tour from September 3 to 7, 2026. The programme will combine island tours, cultural experiences, community visits and business meetings, giving international travel decision-makers direct access to Guam’s tourism products and local visitor businesses.

Guam Mega FAM Brings Global Tourism Partners Together

The Guam Mega FAM is designed around direct interaction between Guam’s tourism industry and international travel professionals. Participants will take part in a welcome reception, curated island tours, cultural activities and a tabletop marketplace where local tourism businesses can present their products.
The participating trade professionals will include travel agents and other tourism industry representatives, alongside media and digital influencers. Their presence provides a direct channel for hotels, attractions, tour operators, transportation companies, restaurants and retailers to present Guam experiences to overseas markets.
The five-day programme gives participants time to experience the destination rather than relying only on promotional material. This includes visiting tourism businesses and attractions, exploring local communities and experiencing Guam’s food and cultural activities.

Tumon Showcases Guam’s Resort Tourism

Tumon is expected to form an important part of the visitor programme, reflecting its position as one of Guam’s principal resort and tourism districts.
The area is known for beachfront hotels, restaurants, shopping, entertainment and access to water-based activities. Tumon Bay also provides opportunities for swimming, marine recreation and coastal sightseeing.
For international travel professionals, experiencing Tumon directly provides an opportunity to assess accommodation, attractions, dining and leisure products that can later be incorporated into holiday packages.
The programme will also include the Tumon Night Market, where participants can encounter local food, entertainment and cultural experiences.

Hagåtña Adds History and Cultural Tourism

Hagåtña, Guam’s capital, provides another important part of the island’s tourism story. The city contains historic and cultural attractions that introduce visitors to Guam’s Chamorro heritage and its wider history.
Participants in the Mega FAM will have opportunities to experience Guam beyond its resort areas, including cultural and community activities. This gives travel professionals exposure to tourism products that can complement beach and hotel stays.
Cultural tourism can form an important component of longer Guam itineraries, allowing visitors to combine coastal recreation with history, food and local experiences.

Island Tours Put Tourism Products in Focus

The curated island tours form one of the central elements of the Mega FAM. Guam’s relatively compact geography allows visitors to move between beaches, historic locations, cultural attractions, restaurants, nature sites and commercial areas during a single trip.
For travel professionals, these tours provide opportunities to assess how individual attractions can work together as packaged experiences.
Tour operators and transportation providers can also use the programme to demonstrate excursion options, transfers and sightseeing routes to potential international partners.
The island’s outdoor tourism offer includes beaches, marine activities, hiking and nature experiences. These can be combined with cultural and culinary attractions to create different itineraries for families, couples, groups and adventure travellers.

Local Businesses Connect Directly with Overseas Buyers

The tabletop marketplace is another major component of the programme. Guam hotels, attractions, tour operators, transportation providers, restaurants, retailers and other visitor-related businesses will have opportunities to meet international tourism professionals directly.
These meetings can introduce local tourism products to travel agents and companies that build holiday packages for overseas customers. Discussions can cover accommodation, excursions, attractions, dining, transport and other elements needed to construct complete travel itineraries.
For smaller tourism businesses, direct contact with international travel partners can provide access to markets that may otherwise require extensive promotional activity.

Food and Community Experiences Add Local Depth

The programme includes a fiesta-style Labor Day celebration and the Tumon Night Market, bringing food, entertainment and cultural experiences into the FAM itinerary.
These experiences allow participants to encounter Guam through local cuisine and community events rather than only through conventional sightseeing.
Chamorro food and cultural traditions form an important part of the island’s visitor experience. Restaurants, markets and community activities can therefore become components of tourism packages developed for international travellers.

Guam Uses FAM Travel to Build International Awareness

Familiarisation trips are already part of Guam’s tourism marketing activity. The Guam Visitors Bureau facilitates FAM trips for travel professionals and other participants seeking direct knowledge of the island’s tourism products.
Previous programmes have included travel agents, media and influencers from individual markets, with participants visiting hotels, attractions, restaurants and optional tours. A 2024 Taiwan Mega FAM, for example, included travel agents, media and bloggers who explored attractions, hotels, tours and restaurants as part of efforts to develop Taiwan-focused Guam packages.
The 2026 Mega FAM expands this approach by bringing more than 200 international tourism professionals, media representatives and digital influencers together during one five-day programme.

A Broader Tourism Recovery Strategy

The timing of the September programme places Guam’s tourism products directly in front of professionals capable of influencing future bookings, travel content and holiday package development.
The island can offer several tourism categories within one destination, including beach holidays, cultural tourism, shopping, dining, outdoor recreation and community experiences.
For international travellers, these products can be combined into short breaks or longer island itineraries depending on flight availability and market demand.
As the Guam Mega FAM runs from September 3 to 7, the island’s tourism businesses will have a concentrated opportunity to demonstrate their products to a large international audience. The programme brings together travel trade, media and digital influence with direct destination experiences, creating a structured platform for promoting Guam’s beaches, culture, attractions, food and hospitality to future visitors.
