Panaji: In response to the growing number of yachts operating in Goa, the state’s tourism department has introduced a new directive targeting all watersports operators offering yacht excursions. The new guidelines require operators to fully comply with the Goa Registration of Tourist Trade Act of 1982 and its associated regulations from 1985.
There has been increasing concern over operators providing yacht services without the necessary permits. Under the new directive, all operators are mandated to complete their registration with the tourism department within 15 working days of receiving the notice. This move aims to regulate the industry, prioritize the safety of tourists, and ensure that legal obligations are met.
The tourism department is committed to enhancing the safety of watersports operations by promoting transparency and accountability. It has emphasized the dangers posed by unregulated activities, which could negatively impact both tourists and the local environment. This directive forms part of a wider initiative to boost compliance within the sector and promote responsible tourism. The objective is to create a sustainable and well-managed tourism framework in Goa.
In addition to the registration requirement, the department plans to conduct regular audits and introduce tailored training programs for watersports operators. These steps are designed to maintain high safety standards, safeguard the environment, and enhance the overall quality of services provided to visitors.
