Four Points by Sheraton Sydney, Darling Harbour this week hosted Business Events Sydney’s visiting International Advisory Board (IAB) for a hard hat tour of the property to showcase its fast emerging AUD$200 million redevelopment, on schedule to open in May 2016.
The Business Events Sydney (BESydney) IAB brings together leaders in business events and associated fields from North America, Europe and Asia Pacific to provide market insight, feedback and potential opportunities for the city as a world class MICE destination.
Hosted by General Manager David Fraser, the BESydney’s IAB was taken on a grand tour of the development and given exclusive previews of the hotel’s new, waterside conference, meeting and event space totalling 4,800 sqm, as well as its additional third tower, which on opening in October 2016 will add 222 new guestrooms, bringing the total portfolio to 905.
During the tour, Mr Fraser provided the board with a property development overview as well as a timeline for when they can expect Four Points by Sheraton Sydney to open and become a leading convention and meetings destination in the heart of the city, and further Sydney’s position as a major business hub in the Asia-Pacific region.
“Previewing the hotel and convention centre to such an influential and informed group that made up BESydney’s IAB was an absolute privilege and allowed us to access valuable insights and feedback supporting our progress and position in the market as a leading, state-of-the-art venue in the heart of Sydney,” said Mr Fraser.
“BESydney’s IAB Sydney forum also helps us to kick start a series of hard hat tours of Four Points by Sheraton Sydney for key industry members, thought leaders and decision makers, which will drive further momentum and excitement for the opening and ensure our most valued clients and partners can share in this exciting journey.”
BESydney’s IAB was first established in 2013 in response to the redevelopment of Darling Harbour and the NSW’s Government’s decision to invest in new convention and exhibition facilities for the city. As a centre-piece development spearheading the revitalisation of Darling Harbour, Four Points by Sheraton Sydney Darling Harbour was a key component in the BESydney IAB schedule for 2015.
BESydney CEO, Lyn Lewis-Smith said, “The development of Four Points by Sheraton Sydney is quickly taking shape and will complement the new, dynamic Darling Harbour convention precinct that will open in late 2016. It’s part of a program of renewal and transformation taking place across the city that we were proud to showcase to our International Advisory Board members.”
The redevelopment of Four Points by Sheraton Sydney, Darling Harbour is one of Sydney’s most ambitious projects in recent years, driving the wider revitalisation of Darling Harbour as a world class meeting destination and addressing the current demand for hotel rooms and convention space in the city centre. Scheduled for completion in May 2016 for the convention space and October 2016 for the additional tower, the new-look Four Points by Sheraton Sydney will offer a total of 23 flexible conference, meeting and events spaces. Two pillar-free ballrooms offering natural light and views over Sydney’s Darling Harbour will have capacity for 1,000 in the maritime ballroom and 1,100 theatre-style in the grand ballroom.
