Durban Tourism Business Awards

The City of Durban has announced that the Durban Tourism Business Awards have entered their second phase, which includes the start of the public voting period. This phase allows individuals to vote for their favorite tourism services among the competition entries, encouraging public participation in recognizing excellence in the local travel industry.

Voting began on Monday, March 11, and will close at midnight on Sunday, March 17. The public is urged to view the list of competition entries online and cast their votes.

The awards aim to acknowledge outstanding contributions to the tourism sector, with a dedicated webpage for public voting at: https://durbantourismawards.com/.

The awards cover various categories, such as service excellence, sustainable development, entrepreneurship, and contributions by filmmakers, with 144 entries in total. The Exceptional Achievement Award is excluded from public voting and is reserved for businesses and products that have achieved international recognition, created jobs, and attracted investments and visitors to the City.

After public voting, an independent panel of judges from the tourism industry will assess the nominated entities. This process includes on-site inspections of the top five nominees in each category to evaluate their tourism offerings thoroughly.

The awards will culminate in a ceremony at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in mid-June, where winners will receive cash and developmental prizes to support their businesses.

eThekwini Mayor, Councillor Mxolisi Kaunda, emphasized that these awards are among several initiatives by the City focused on investing in and elevating the local tourism industry. He highlighted the awards’ role in providing significant marketing exposure, thereby opening more opportunities for the winners and aiding in the sustainable growth of their businesses. The Mayor encouraged community participation in this commendable initiative by casting their votes.
