Design Hotels Returns to Mexico City Art Week with Immersive Experiences

Design Hotels, a global network of nearly 300 independent properties, is making a dynamic return to Mexico City’s international art scene. This year, the brand will have a strong presence at both Zona Maco and Material Art Fair, reinforcing its deep connection to art, culture, and experiential hospitality. Running through February 9, the initiative will feature exclusive culinary and cocktail collaborations with its esteemed partners, Grupo Habita and Drift Hotels, both of which are part of the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio.

To kick off Mexico City Art Week, Design Hotels will host an exclusive brunch at Museo Anahuacalli. This special gathering will celebrate the launch of a joint exhibition featuring artists Paloma Contreras and Carolina Fusilier. Guests will enjoy a menu crafted by Chef Saúl Carranza of Hotel Escondido, a Grupo Habita property, while mixologist Alexis Soler of Drift Nashville curates a unique cocktail selection for the occasion.

“Art Week is an extraordinary time to be in Mexico City with many unique exhibits and events that bring together artists and collectors, as well as local art enthusiasts and global visitors,” said Carlos Couturier, co-founder of Grupo Habita. “We’re delighted to join forces with Design Hotels during these two iconic art fairs – at the intersection of hospitality, culture, and community – to create a truly one-of-a-kind gastronomic experience throughout Zona Maco and Material.”

At Zona Maco, Design Hotels will introduce a pop-up dining experience, bringing Bistró Humano—the latest culinary venture from Grupo Habita’s Hotel Humano—to the heart of the fair. Led by Chef Marion Chateau, the restaurant will transport guests to the relaxed, coastal atmosphere of La Punta Zicatela, Oaxaca, with a menu inspired by the region’s fresh flavors.

Simultaneously, at Material Art Fair, Design Hotels will collaborate with Grupo Habita to curate an exclusive lounge in a space designed by Ago Projects. The lounge will feature a culinary experience by Chef Enid Vélez of Círculo Mexicano, complemented by an inventive cocktail program from mixologist Alexis Soler. Known for her ability to craft drinks with locally sourced ingredients, Soler will bring a fresh twist to classic cocktails, creating flavors that capture the essence of the destination.

“With new and long-standing partners like Grupo Habita, our goal is to push boundaries and deepen community during established and emerging events in art and design around the world,” said Sarah Doyle, Global Brand Leader, Design Hotels. “These are moments to gain inspiration, facilitate collaboration among our owners, and ultimately, translate that sense of wonder to deliver a uniquely Design Hotels’ guest experience infused with the passion of its creator.”

Beyond Mexico City, Design Hotels will continue its commitment to the arts with immersive activations at major global events. In April, the brand will participate in Milan Design Week, followed by a presence at the Venice Biennale in May, where Grupo Habita will contribute to the Mexican Pavilion. Additionally, Design Hotels will engage with the newly launched Biennale d’architecture et de paysage in Versailles and NYC x Design, both taking place in May, further solidifying its dedication to fostering creativity and innovation on an international scale.
