Dallas-logoThe Dallas Convention & Visitors Bureau (DCVB) announces its newest addition to the Bureau’s tourism team, Mark D. Thompson as Vice President, Tourism.

Thompson brings more than twenty years of tourism and marketing experience to the Bureau.

Reporting to the president/CEO of the DCVB, Thompson is responsible for the Bureau’s tourism sales, cultural tourism, tourism special event and attractions development, international strategic plans and serves as the primary liaison for partnerships and marketing opportunities with the two major Dallas airports.

Thompson replaces Dave Krupinski, CTA, who was promoted to Assistant Executive Director at the San Antonio Convention & Visitors Bureau.

“With his extensive Convention & Visitors Bureau experience in tourism, marketing and hospitality, Mark is instrumental to increasing overall arrivals to the Dallas area in key domestic and international markets,” said Phillip J. Jones, president/CEO of the Dallas Convention & Visitors Bureau.

“As the newest asset to our organization, he brings to the Bureau strong leadership, industry relationships and valuable Dallas knowledge as a longtime resident of the community.”

Prior to joining the DCVB, Thompson served ten years as the vice president of marketing for the Irving Convention & Visitors Bureau, where he managed the marketing, communications, and research initiatives of the bureau and of the Irving Convention Center at Las Colinas.

Before his time in Irving, he spent more than ten years at Southfork Ranch Event & Conference Center and the Southfork Hotel, overseeing sales, marketing, advertising, and public relations strategies for the facilities.

Thompson is serving as the secretary-treasurer for the Americas Board of Directors of the Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International (HSMAI) for 2014-2015. HSMAI named him one of the Top 25 Most Extraordinary Minds in Sales and Marketing in 2010; the same year, its Dallas-Fort Worth chapter named him the DFW Sales and Marketing Professional of the Year.

Thompson is a member of the Dallas-Fort Worth Area Tourism Council (DFWATC), and previously served as board chairman of that cooperative marketing organization, which represents more than forty convention and visitors bureaus and their industry partners in North Texas, as well as a past board chairman of that council’s non-profit foundation, the Tourism Alliance of North Texas (TANTX).

Mark received his bachelor’s degree from Southwestern University in Georgetown and his master’s degree from Southern Methodist University in Dallas.

As a fourth generation Texas native, he makes his home in Dallas where he lived for more than twenty years.
