Culpeper Honored with Prestigious Virgo Award for Outstanding Tourism Advertising Strategy
Culpeper’s Tourism and Economic Development division has earned statewide recognition after receiving the coveted Virgo Award for Best Comprehensive Advertising Campaign from the Virginia Association of Destination Marketing Organizations (VADMO).
This annual awards program celebrates excellence across Virginia’s tourism sector, spotlighting achievements in marketing innovation, destination branding, signature events, and professional leadership. The Virgo Awards are considered a benchmark for destination marketing success across the Commonwealth.
An independent panel of tourism professionals from outside Virginia reviewed the submissions. Campaigns were judged based on multiple criteria, including strategy execution, cost-effectiveness, clarity of goals, creative direction, and measurable impact on local economic development and community engagement.
Eligible campaigns had to be completed between January and December 2024. Award recipients were officially announced during the 2025 VADMO Tourism Symposium, held on April 10 in Harrisonburg.
The Best Comprehensive Advertising Campaign award specifically honors destinations that craft a unified, strategic advertising approach aligned with long-term tourism objectives. This includes a mix of digital outreach, traditional media, content development, social engagement, influencer collaborations, and public-private initiatives.
Culpeper secured the award for its impressive Culpeper VA 250 brand and program — a multi-year initiative that commemorates the town’s 250-year history while aligning with the broader celebration of America’s 250th anniversary. The campaign highlights Culpeper’s heritage through collaborative programs involving local businesses, civic groups, and cultural organizations, building both awareness and civic pride.
