Carnival Corporation, the world’s largest cruise operator, is shifting its focus from aggressive new ship builds to fleet revitalization in the coming years. In a strategic move unveiled during the company’s first-quarter 2026 earnings call, CEO Josh Weinstein announced the launch of the “Propel” strategy, which will guide the company’s operations through 2029. The new approach will emphasize the maintenance, enhancement, and modernization of its existing fleet of 96 ships, rather than large-scale fleet expansion. This shift aims to optimize customer satisfaction, operational efficiency, and sustainability across the company’s various cruise lines.

With only three new ships planned for delivery over the next three years, Carnival Corporation is prioritizing its current vessels. The decision to focus on revitalizing older ships is part of a broader trend in the cruise industry where companies are increasingly investing in upgrades, refurbishments, and refurbishing existing ships instead of focusing heavily on new builds.

In fact, another Carnival cruise line is set to launch its own fleet rejuvenation program in April 2026.
