Cambodia, Kampot and Bokor Mountain are preparing for a major green-season tourism event on October 4, 2026, when the “Run for Green Tourism on Bokor Mountain” will bring trail running and outdoor recreation into Preah Monivong Bokor National Park. The event is being organised by Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism with the Kampot Provincial Administration, the Bokor Mountain Trail 2026 Organising Committee and Sokha Hotels & Resorts. The programme is designed to attract domestic and international visitors while showcasing Kampot’s natural and cultural tourism resources. https://akp.gov.kh
Bokor Mountain Takes Centre Stage
The event will begin at 6am in front of Le Bokor Palace Hotel inside the national park. Rather than being limited to experienced runners, the programme includes four categories covering different levels of participation.
The main options are a 25-kilometre obstacle trail, a 12-kilometre obstacle trail, a 5-kilometre obstacle trail and a 3-kilometre non-competitive walking route. This format gives visitors the option of making the event the centrepiece of an active holiday or choosing a shorter nature experience. https://akp.gov.kh
Registration is open until September 30, 2026. Participants receive a package containing a T-shirt, water, beverages and snacks, while registration for the 3-kilometre walking route is free. The first 500 people registering for the walking route will also receive complimentary T-shirts. https://akp.gov.kh
Travel Details for Participants
Participants collecting event materials can do so on October 2 and 3 between 8am and 5pm at the Tourist Information Centre at Old Bridge Head in Kampot province. This creates an opportunity for visitors arriving before race day to spend additional time exploring the town and surrounding attractions. https://akp.gov.kh
The event can also be incorporated into a longer Kampot itinerary. The provincial tourism offer includes Bokor National Park, waterfalls, caves, pepper plantations, salt fields, riverside areas and heritage attractions, allowing visitors to combine outdoor activities with food, culture and sightseeing.
Exploring Bokor Beyond the Trail
Bokor National Park is one of Kampot’s established nature attractions. Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism describes the area as a year-round destination known for its cooler mountain climate, forest scenery and views from the summit. Popokvil Waterfall is another attraction within the mountain area. Tourism Cambodia
The mountain landscape also provides opportunities for trekking, cycling, wildlife observation and camping. The wider Bokor area is therefore suited to travellers looking for outdoor activities beyond the October trail event. MPSEZ
For visitors interested in local communities and nature, the Prek Thnout Community-Based Ecotourism site lies at the base of the Bokor mountain range. The site includes mangrove forests, waterfalls, guided environmental walks and opportunities to learn about traditional ceremonies and locally produced food. It is about 30 kilometres from Kampot town and can be reached by bus, minibus or taxi. Tourism Cambodia
Kampot Adds Culture and Food
A trip to Kampot does not have to end with the mountain. The provincial capital is known for its riverside setting, French colonial architecture, local markets and food experiences. Pepper plantations and traditional salt fields provide additional stops for visitors extending their stay.
The province also has attractions around Kampong Trach, including limestone caves and natural formations, while coastal areas offer another side of the destination. The combination makes it possible to create a multi-day itinerary around the trail event instead of travelling solely for race day.
For accommodation, travellers can stay in Kampot town or choose properties closer to Bokor. Cambodia’s tourism listings include hotels and guesthouses in the provincial capital as well as accommodation on Bokor Mountain. Tourism Cambodia
Green Season Brings a Different Landscape
The October event is specifically positioned within Cambodia’s green season, when the country’s landscapes take on a wetter and greener character. The Ministry of Tourism says the trail event is intended to encourage domestic and international travel to Kampot during this period. https://akp.gov.kh
That seasonal timing also affects travel planning. Visitors joining an outdoor event should check weather conditions, trail instructions and organiser updates before travelling, particularly because terrain conditions can change during the rainy period.
Building an Adventure Holiday in Kampot
Travellers arriving for the Bokor event can combine the race or walking route with several days of sightseeing. A possible itinerary could begin in Kampot town, continue to Prek Thnout and Bokor National Park, and then include waterfalls, caves, pepper farms or coastal attractions.
The event also gives international visitors a direct reason to explore a part of Cambodia beyond the country’s best-known temple destinations. With four participation formats and a wider network of nature and cultural attractions, Bokor Mountain is being presented as an adventure tourism setting as well as a scenic destination.
On October 4, the focus will be firmly on Bokor Mountain, but the wider tourism opportunity extends across Kampot province. For visitors, the trail event provides an entry point into Cambodia’s green-season landscapes, while the surrounding province offers nature, heritage, food and community-based experiences for a longer stay.
