Baraghan Village Shines As A Tourism Hub Following Successful Cuisine Festival In Alborz Province

The recent Cuisine Tourism Festival in Baraghan Village, located in Alborz province, has put the spotlight on the area’s immense tourism potential. This event, organized by the Alborz Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts, and Tourism Department in partnership with local communities, the Baraghan Rural District, the Baraghan Islamic Council, and Parseh Tourism Training Company, marked a significant milestone in positioning Baraghan as a key destination for both domestic and international travelers.

The festival focused on the village’s rich culinary traditions, with a special emphasis on its famed plums. Local dishes and traditional desserts featuring the plum highlighted the village’s unique gastronomic offerings. This event underscored Baraghan’s growing role in the cuisine tourism and handicraft industries, presenting the village as an emerging hub for rural tourism. It also served as an important cultural initiative, contributing to the local economy and fostering a sense of cultural prosperity.

Baraghan’s culinary legacy, including its plum preservation methods, the production of Goleh Ice-cream, and the crafting of Samanoo (a traditional Iranian sweet), plays a pivotal role in its potential to become a major destination for cuisine tourism. Over forty tables were set up at the festival, offering a variety of dishes and desserts made with Baraghan’s prized plums. In 2024, Baraghan, alongside Salehieh, was officially added to Iran’s national list of top tourist villages. Alborz province, situated just 10 kilometers west of Tehran, has been actively promoting rural tourism through initiatives that highlight the cultural and natural attractions of its villages. As part of this strategy, fifty villages in Alborz have been identified as key rural tourism destinations, with Baraghan and Salehieh standing out due to their unique character, historical significance, and scenic landscapes.

The rise of rural tourism in Iran aligns with a global trend where travelers are increasingly seeking authentic, off-the-beaten-path experiences. Visitors are drawn to destinations that allow them to escape the hectic pace of city life, with activities such as fruit picking, fishing, and staying with local families.
