The appointment of Australian Business Events Association (ABEA) leadership will ensure better landing experiences are on the cards for out-bound Travel to Australia for Conferences, Incentives and Special events. As such, the new direction addresses the need to revitalise the business events sector and contribute to a more attractive proposition for both Australian and international tourists and business visitors.
ABEA – Prosperous future continued Urban continued ABEA, a major driving force in the campaign to promote Australia as the premier destination for business and event tourism, has announced significant appointments to its Board and special-interest committees. The appointments were made in order to recognize innovation, sustainability, and unique visitor experiences by the organization.
At the forefront of these changes, Colette Baini has joined the board of ABEA. Baini, respected in the events business in Australia, is the founder and CEO of The Conference Room and Australia Conferences & Incentives. Known for her innovative incentive travel and destination management, destination marketing in all of Australia’s unique destinations. This expertise is expected to inform ABEA’s strategic planning and have a meaningful impact on where Australia sits as a global events destination.
After much member consultation the ABEA strategically integrated the Supplier Pillar with the Workplace Health and Safety (WH&S) and Risk Management Special Interest Groups. Conceding that there is significant overlap in the functions, ABEA has appointed Damien Gaffney as the chair of the new, unified committee. This optimised structure is designed to facilitate event safety and effective resource management, ultimately benefiting travellers by enhancing event quality and reliability.
As well as the recruitment of Gaffney, ABEA has rebooted its regional committees to better represent different travel markets. The Queensland Chapter has a new chair, Dan Morahan, and a leader for Victoria, Hannah Von Bibra. Manifesting their commitment to regional development and tourism, Jessie Rayson assumes the chair of the Northern Territory after a two-year stint as vice-chair.
The sustainability chair for the special committees is Jessica Zicker in recognition of ABEA’s dedication to doing business “green,” an important component for the eco-tourist. Toni McAllister is the lead for the Education, Skills & Pathways to Industry committee, which is all about cultivating the industry’s workforce, and enhancing the level of service visitors enjoy. Andrew Cook will counsel the emerging leaders group, with a focus on new ideas that enhance the traveler experience.
