Australia and New Zealand Event Report

The 2025 Cvent Event Industry Report reveals a bright future for the events sector in Australia and New Zealand, with expectations of substantial growth. Conducted by Censuswide, an independent research consultancy, the report is based on insights from 150 leading event planners, marketers, and decision-makers in the region, indicating a positive shift in the industry’s trajectory.

According to the findings, 81% of event professionals plan to increase the number of events they organize, a significant rise from 68% in 2024. This uptick reflects a broader trend towards more in-person gatherings, with a 57% increase anticipated, underscoring a resurgence of face-to-face interactions as the world moves away from pandemic constraints. Moreover, the persistence of digital formats such as webinars (56%), virtual events (54%), and hybrid models (45%) shows the industry’s successful integration of digital tools alongside traditional methods.

Jack Ukil, Senior Director and Country Head of Cvent Australia, emphasizes that the focus is not just on quantitative growth but also on enhancing the quality and inclusivity of events. “Event professionals in Australia and New Zealand are not only dedicated to increasing their event output but are also keen on crafting engaging experiences that are innovative, sustainable, and accessible to all,” Ukil remarked.

The push for enhanced brand visibility continues to drive event planning, though challenges in revenue generation persist. Nevertheless, confidence remains high among industry players, with 77% planning to up their event spending and all respondents prioritizing strategic investments in their event budgets.

A notable trend in the sector is the prioritization of cutting-edge technology, with 24% of planners earmarking technology as their primary investment focus, surpassing both event promotion (17%) and content provision (16%). This is in line with broader governmental support for digital transformation, as outlined in initiatives like Australia’s Digital Economy Strategy and New Zealand’s Innovation strategies.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is set to play a pivotal role, with 75% of surveyed organizations already utilizing AI tools for event management, and 45% expressing keen interest in exploring new technological solutions over the next year.

Sustainability and accessibility are also central themes in the report. Eighty percent of respondents have established explicit sustainability objectives for their 2025 events, up from 71% the previous year, with 64% ready to monitor their carbon footprint. Similarly, 68% of organizations have set specific goals to enhance accessibility, supported by governmental policies such as the Australian Disability Strategy and New Zealand’s framework for disability issues.

In conclusion, the Cvent Event Industry Report 2025 paints an optimistic picture of the future for the events industry in Australia and New Zealand. With a strong commitment to innovation, sustainability, and inclusivity, backed by government initiatives, the sector is well-equipped to offer impactful and enriching experiences to a diverse audience.
