Armir Harris is a visionary entrepreneur and CEO recognised for founding and leading CharterUP, a technology-driven platform transforming the charter bus and group transportation industry across North America. With a strong foundation from Boston University and UCLA, Harris combined early exposure to his family’s ground transport business with a passion for digital innovation to streamline booking, improve logistics, and enhance passenger experience. Under his leadership, CharterUP has scaled rapidly, handling millions of miles and facilitating travel for tens of millions of passengers annually, while earning accolades including the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year® Gulf South Award, placement on the Inc. 5000 list, and recognition as one of Austin’s Best CEOs. Harris has also been invited to join the Forbes Business Council, reflecting his influence as a thought leader in transportation technology and marketplace solutions. His work focuses on creating accessible, efficient, and sustainable travel options, targeting high-value segments such as family groups, corporate clients, and event-based travel, while ensuring economic impact for operators and communities. Known for his strategic vision, resilience, and operational expertise, Harris continues to drive innovation, shaping the future of travel by integrating technology, data-driven insights, and customer-focused solutions.

How did your early experiences in the traditional transit sector inspire you to found CharterUP and disrupt the industry?

I grew up around the transportation industry through my family’s limousine company, so I saw early on how fragmented and manual the industry was. Charter bus operators were heavily reliant on spreadsheets, sticky notes, and phone calls to manage fleets and coordinate trips. I knew there had to be a better way.

The real turning point came in 2012 when a client called, looking for 60+ vehicles. We didn’t have 60 motorcoaches, but I agreed to the job and immediately started calling nearby bus operators to piece together the fleet. That experience made it very clear that there was a significant opportunity to aggregate supply through technology and modernize this industry that was still operating largely offline.

That became the foundation for CharterUP. We built a platform that could unify fragmented charter bus operators into a tech-enabled national marketplace.

How does CharterUP’s real-time marketplace technology solve the inefficiencies of legacy group transportation?

Historically, group transportation has been a very fragmented and manual industry. Customers had limited visibility into pricing, availability, and operator quality.

CharterUP brings all of that into a single real-time platform. Customers can compare charter bus pricing and availability, book quickly, and access visibility tools into vehicle specs and reviews.

At the same time, our marketplace creates major opportunities for bus operators. Many local fleets wouldn’t normally have access to large enterprise programs or major events. Through CharterUP, they can participate in larger, long-term opportunities.

The balance between creating value for both customers and bus operators is what makes our marketplace platform so powerful.

What core strategy allowed you to successfully build and scale a fully integrated, national virtual fleet?

A lot of it came down to patience, conviction, and believing early in where the market was headed. We believed group transportation would eventually move toward aggregation and would benefit from introducing a smart technology platform to couple supply and demand.

As we invested in our team, our technology, and the operator experience, the draw of our network became powerful. Operators saw the value of being part of our network, since we help unlock opportunities they wouldn’t normally be able to participate in on their own.  CharterUP also provides tools and data that help them operate their fleets more efficiently.

Over time, our reputation and execution began to speak for themselves.  Operators wanted to work with us, and clients saw the benefit of running their transportation programs through our network.

What do CharterUP’s recent growth milestones tell us about the changing demand for smarter group travel?

Our recent milestones – surpassing 10,000 networked vehicles, 50 million miles traveled and 25 million passengers moved – are strong proof points.  These milestones reinforce our position in the market, and highlight the continued, sustained demand for intelligent group travel.

Enterprises, public sector organizations, and large traveling groups are putting more emphasis on reliable, technology-enabled charter bus services.

We spent years investing heavily into our platform, operator network, and marketplace infrastructure, and now we’re seeing the benefits of that investment.

Today’s customers expect visibility, flexibility, and efficiency, while operators want access to demand and modern fleet management tools.  Our platform revolutionized the industry, but we still think we’re very early in the broader transformation of group transit.

How is CharterUP preparing for emerging trends like fleet electrification, autonomous vehicles, and smart infrastructure?

We’re building the platform today that can support the future of group transportation, whether that’s electric charter buses, autonomous vehicles, or broader smart mobility infrastructure.

We’re already supporting electric fleet deployments, and we’re continuing to invest heavily in AI across routing, pricing, dispatch, and operations.

Long term, we believe autonomous shuttle systems will thrive in high-frequency, fixed-route environments like airports, campuses, and enterprise transit systems.

We’re in a strong position today, but we’re continuing to invest aggressively in the platform, infrastructure, and technology that will support the next generation of mobility.
