Amtrak has named Mark Murphy as General Manager, Long Distance Services. He will be based in Chicago and have accountability for safety, customer satisfaction, ridership, on-time performance and financial results for the long-distance business line. He reports directly to DJ Stadtler, vice president of operations.
Mr. Murphy brings decades of Amtrak experience to this position having joined the company in 1976. He most recently served as the deputy chief mechanical officer, Terminal Operations, in Wilmington, Del. In his career at the railroad, he has held jobs of increasing responsibility including: terminal superintendent Washington division; assistant vice president, Service Operations; superintendent, Equipment Standards and Compliance; and master mechanic, Central division.
