The San Diego Convention Center Corporation (SDCCC) was recognized by the City of San Diego’s Environmental Services Department as one of the 10 Recyclers of the Year in the 2016 Waste Reduction and Recycling Awards Program for outstanding recycling and waste reduction efforts.
San Diego City Councilmember Todd Gloria presented the recognition at the 24th Annual Waste Reduction & Recycling Awards. “Today, we honor businesses and organizations who have made a commitment to protecting San Diego’s environment and natural resources,” said Gloria. “They are implementing innovative and sustainable programs to improve our overall quality of life.”
SDCCC President and CEO Clifford “Rip” Rippetoe, CFE accepted the award on behalf of the Corporation alongside Board Chair Laurie Coskey, Building Superintendent Ron Barham and Director of Facility Services Donald Bottger.
“It’s an honor to be recognized by the City of San Diego,” said Rippetoe. “At the heart of our green efforts are our employees who come into work every day, roll up their sleeves and take the initiative to find innovative ways to make our building, and the events we hold here, more eco-friendly.”
The San Diego Convention Center, a LEED-Silver certified building designated by the U.S. Green Building Council, is one of the most energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly convention centers in the nation. This award adds to the Corporation’s nearly two dozen state, local and industry sustainable business recognitions. Years of success are the result of a staff that constantly looks for ways to expand conservation efforts and reduce the impact of the facility on the environment.
