Rabbi Laurie Coskey Elected to Lead San Diego Convention Center Corporation Board of Directors

Laurie_Coskey_SDCCC-300x300The San Diego Convention Center Corporation announced its 2016 Board of Director’s Officers. Rabbi Laurie Coskey has been elected to chair, Candace M. Carroll will serve as vice chair and Gil Cabrera will serve as the board’s secretary. The seven-member Board of Directors sets policy for the public benefit corporation that was created by the City of San Diego to exclusively manage, market and operate the 2.6 million-square-foot waterfront facility.

 

 

Rabbi Coskey is a community leader with more than 25 years of experience building collaborative, community coalitions of leaders and people who work to improve the lives and the future possibilities of residents of San Diego County. Her current position as the Executive Director of the Interfaith Center for Worker Justice offers her a credible platform for this work, where she helps diverse coalitions unite behind common goals, turning an aspirational vision into reality and expanding the boundaries of what is possible. Rabbi Coskey is a board member of Interfaith Worker Justice (IWJ), the national alliance of worker justice organizations, and of the Southern Border Communities Coalition, an alliance of immigrant and border advocacy organizations. The San Diego Business Journal recently recognized her as one of 2015’s Women Who Mean Business. An expert in multifaith relationships, she is Rabbi in Residence at St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral.

 

 

Ms. Carroll is a highly-regarded appellate practitioner with more than 30 years of experience handling appeals in the federal, state and bankruptcy appellate courts. Her cases have included a wide range of subjects including contract disputes, insurance and indemnity issues, wrongful termination, intellectual property, personal injury and complex family law matters. Ms. Carroll has taught seminars in advanced legal writing at Duke University School of Law and the University of San Diego School of Law, and currently supervises a Ninth Circuit Legal Clinic at the University of San Diego School of Law. She is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the California Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and several other circuits, and before the United States District Courts for the Central and Southern Districts of California. She also serves on the boards of the San Diego Opera Association and the Immigration Justice Project. She is a member of the State Bar of California, the San Diego County Bar Association and of the San Diego Lawyers Club.

 

 

Prior to forming The Cabrera Firm, Mr. Cabrera was a senior associate with Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps, LLP. In this role, he specialized in business litigation, securities litigation, intellectual property, employment law and white collar criminal defense. Mr. Cabrera has broad experience representing companies and individuals in trials both large and small. He has successfully represented clients before government agencies such as the Securities and Exchange Commission, the U.S. Department of Justice and the California Attorney General’s Office. Mr. Cabrera is a member of the litigation section of the State Bar of California, the Federal Bar Association, the San Diego County Bar Association, the San Diego Lawyers Club, the Welsh Chapter of the American Inn of Court and the American Business Trial Lawyers Association. Mr. Cabrera serves on the board of directors for the San Diego LGBT Community Center.
